Islamic Extremists vs. Mia Khalifa

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/people/pornhub-star-mia-khalifa-receives-death-threats-after-being-ranked-sites-number-one-adult-actress-9962293.html

Quote
A Lebanese-American porn star has received death threats after being ranked the number one actress on the adult website Pornhub.

Mia Khalifa moved from Beirut, Lebanon to the United States at the age of ten before eventually moving to Miami, where she is now based.

The 21-year-old history graduate was ranked the most popular performer by Pornhub after only only a short period in the industry – but not everyone was impressed.

Her ranking drew strong criticism from many, including some in the Middle East who branded her “a disgrace” to the country and “shameful”.

Khalifa has since been re-tweeting the abuse sparked by those taking issue with her Middle Eastern origins – some of which included death threats.

Many took issue with a scene from one of her videos showing her wearing a hijab, a part of traditional female Muslim dress, describing it as “problematic and gross”.

Khalifa told the Washington Post such scenes are “satirical” and should be taken as such, adding: "There are Hollywood movies that depict Muslims in a much worse manner than any scene Bang Bros [the production company] could produce."

Another user also sent a manipulated photo to make it appear as if Khalifa was in an orange jumpsuit and being held by Jihadi John, the Isis militant believed to be involved in a series of beheadings, with the caption “coming soon”.

One Twitter user threatened her head “will be cut soon” while another warned Khalifa would be the “the first person in Hellfire”, to which she quipped: “I’ve been meaning to get a little tan recently”.

I hope she doesn't get shot too.

Curiously I actually checked out some of her stuff.  I think the thing they're most upset about is she's in traditional Muslim garb for some of the porn before she gets naked and does the deed.

Ironbite-that's gotta get the fundies up in arms.

That woman knows how to respond to these throwbacks, good on 'er!  If the ignorant savages can't take the idea of a woman of their skin tone takin a fat D on film, or heaven forbid, wear one of their oh-so-sacred garbs before taking the aforementioned D, then...well, they'll be dead of old age and blue balls soon.

Did you look up any of her stuff?  One of her films is her and another woman, described as her "mother", dressed in hijabs getting plowed by a well hung gentleman.

Ironbite-yeah that got 'em all riled up.

Religious fuckwits everywhere, though especially Muslims it would seem, need to learn that you can't expect nonbelievers to treat your religion and culture with the same respect and reverence that you do. Stop trying to make that happen, it is not going to happen.

I have to disagree with the 'especially Muslims' part. We have the Pope sitting in his internationally recognized city state making proclamations to the world, we have a Jewish state that the western powers carved out of the Middle East and and to this props up with no regard to its actions, and the last remaining superpower, that shining beacon of light and liberty that expects everyone to bow in reverence before its greatness, puts In God We Trust on its currency.

They are all equally guilty of sticking their dicks where they don't belong. The only difference is that one of them isn't so entrenched in our culture that it goes largely unnoticed and unchecked when they try to force their views on the world.

True, they have a great deal more institutional influence, at least in certain places. That's not what I was talking about, though. I was referring more to the expectation the more rabid or just plain stupid adherents that everyone, nonbelievers included, will treat their religion with the same respect and reverence as they do. Looking at what happens when, for example, someone even suggests drawing a picture of Mohammed, I have to say that does seem to be a lot more of a running theme in Islam than in Christianity and Judaism.

Try suggesting removing 'In God We Trust' from the currency, or that the Pope needs to stop interfering with family planning initiatives in the third world, or that maybe the government of Israel should stop acting like such a bunch of dicks and see how much hatred you generate. Of the three, only one of those things is actually a core tenant of of faith.

Again, that's not what I'm talking about. Every religion has its power base and they don't much care for anyone fucking with it. That's not what's in question. I'm talking about the behavior of individuals, not institutions. Again, look at this sort of thing, or how some cartoonist drawing pictures of Mohammed or some redneck burning a Quran resulted in actual violence by Muslims. The kind that actually killed people. And it wasn't even a surprise that this happened, no less. Hell, the guy who burned the Quran largely did it because he expected that exactly this would happen. Of course, attack or mock Christianity or Judaism or any other religion for that matter and there will be no shortage of butthurt, but very rarely will it escalate to actual violence.

We just start wars or use our institutions to otherwise beat down the perceived offense for us. Abortion clinics still get bombed and doctors still get shot on very rare occasions even with they very sustained and systematic war the Republican party has been waging on abortion rights and access. If the party turned a blind eye to the 'problem' you wold probably see more incidences of violence.

The violence I see in the name of Allah seems to come from very disenfranchised individuals and corners of the world where violence is already a way of life. Our resident populations of Muslims here in the west -- our fellow citizens and countrymen -- are no better or worse than than any other religious group that reside here.

Much as we love to joke about it, Iraq and Afghanistan have nothing to do with Christianity. Those wars are about oil, and making the government not look powerless immediately after 9/11, respectively. You do raise a good point about abortion, though.

Mia, you rock!  8)

I like her already and shall research more of her works of art when the kids are asleep.
No matter what happens, no matter what my last words may end up being, I want everyone to claim that they were:
"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine."
Aww, you guys rock. :)  I feel the love... and the pitchforks and torches.  Tingly!
