OKLAHOMA CITY — An Oklahoma City man kidnapped a 20-year-old woman and forced her to watch others torture and kill another woman so that she would cooperate with a human trafficking ring, police said Tuesday.

Jimmy Lee Massey, 33, was arrested on a warrant for first-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Carina Saunders, whose dismembered body was found stuffed in a duffel bag in the Oklahoma City suburb of Bethany, Police Chief Phil Cole said. Formal charges are pending.

Massey was already being held in the Oklahoma County jail on drug charges and he remains jailed without bond. Court documents do not list an attorney for him.

An affidavit filed in the case said Massey told investigators he kidnapped the 20-year-old woman and forced her to watch others kill Saunders. He also provided details of Saunders' torture, killing and dismemberment and disposal of the body.

Cole said there was no evidence the 20-year-old knew Saunders, but she and Saunders both knew Massey. He said the kidnapping and killing were meant to send a message that the 20-year-old and her friends faced the same fate unless they cooperated with a human trafficking ring focused on prostitution and a related drug ring.

He said the 20-year-old's name was not being released because of concerns about her safety.

"Evidence in our investigation has led us to believe that she had been expected to provide certain things to this trafficking group and that she had not been performing to their satisfaction," he said.

Cole said there's no evidence that Saunders, whose beheaded body was found Oct. 13 behind a Bethany grocery store, was involved in criminal activity.

"Our information right now leads us to believe she was a random choice, as sad as that is," Cole said. "She had relationships within these loosely associated people, and I think that she was a victim of opportunity."

Maybe it’s because I don’t want to dwell on such horrors, but the only comment I want to make has nothing to do with the story itself, but on its writing:

If they are withholding the victim’s name, can’t they come up with a few other ways to refer to her other than “the 20-year-old?” That kinda bugged me.

People like this are totally devoid of any kind of humanity and don't deserve to be labeled or even remotely associated as such.  At this point, he has not displayed one redeeming value.  With this act, he has only acted with heinous cruelty and malice in different ways at the same time towards two young women.

Even putting people like him to death is too kind.  Complete and total isolation away from actual people would be appropriate.   Find some small uninhabited piece of dirt island hundreds of miles from any other living person and let them fend for themselves.  The longer it takes them to die, the better. 

I know it can be said that doing something like this to him is no better than what he did to those young women.  But when they do something this callous, fuck 'em.  They have already demonstrated total disdain for the rules and laws of civilized society and need to be removed from it.

But that's just my take on it.

On the contrary, these individuals serve as much of an example of humanity as Einstein and all of the others.  They are quite full of humanity.  It's just the darker side of humanity that we do not like to entertain, and in fact pretend it is not a part of us.  And it is a part of us that is better off not indulged in, for the sake of our species.

...That being said, pure evil is a good way to describe these kinds of people.  My darker side wants to gouge out his eyes, force feed them to him, and then lock him in a tiny room where the wall moves closer to the other wall an inch per hour, until he is slowly flattened to a pancake.

Yeah, thought of that.  Probably the best fit as it is now would be General Discussion.  What we need is an In The News section or something like that for topics such as this that don't quite fit anything else.

And Zachski, I understand where you're going with that, and to some extent, I can agree.  There is a darker side to humanity that we don't like to think exists.  But it is a shame that people have to die or be terrorized and probably extremely traumatized for us to be reminded of it. 

Nevertheless, I think we both agree that the fucker should never be allowed to enjoy any part of the rest of his life.

Same here, though I'm not surprised. I personally know people who would gladly do things like this to someone just because they're gay(for similar reasons I refuse to say I'm an atheist in public). Such is the South I guess.

Agreed.  Just because it exists and always will, doesn't mean it has to be tolerated.  On the contrary, it is in our best interests to make sure it gets punished.
