Title: File-Sharing, in Sweden its a religion

Kopimism is the brainchild of philosophy student Isak Gerson, who founded the church in 2010 to protect his beliefs that copying and sharing information is a good thing. (If Kopimism has a Ten Commandments equivalent, I'm guessing "Thou shall not steal" didn't make the cut.)

Before you dispute Kopimism as hogwash, there are some things to consider. According to TorrentFreak, the movement has a couple thousand followers, and the number is expected to rise with its official status.

Reaching this point wasn't easy, however. Since the church's founding, Gerson made several attempts and failed to get Sweden to recognize the organization as an official religion. It was only after the group formalized a way of praying/meditation that the church got the official blessing.

Kopimism leaders hope the official recognition of their religion could be a positive factor in court cases. I wouldn't expect it to work like a "Get out of jail free" card, though I'm sure that won't stop Gerson from preaching the message of Kopimism.

You know out of all the religions out there, I think this is one I could get behind and support.  What do you all think?  Could you get behind this "religion"?

Self-entitled twats who just want to get away with piracy? No, I don't think I can get behind that at all.

If it was a secret occultic society where we dressed up in fancy robes and did satanic blood sacrifice rituals on webcam, then maybe.

Best case scenario, this kind of thing catches on internationally, highlights the ridiculousness of religion, and ends up with religions having no more official protection or pandering than any other form of personal expression.

Making a religion in order to get special protections.  I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

It was only after the group formalized a way of praying/meditation that the church got the official blessing.

Is that all it takes to get an "official" blessing?

Maybe we should work on a formal FSTDT prayer. What do ya think?

One could start a religion based on the value of filling toothpaste tube with doo-doo.

Years ago I drafted a religion I called Escalo-Firology, which was based on the holy text posted in many public buildings, "in the event of a fire, use stairs." Repent your sins, brothers and sisters! Be not like the heathen Elevites and the heretic Escalites, who turned away from the stairs and in their pride were lost!

So would the “Ramen” make us an offshoot of Pastafarianism, then?

I was always more into the Invisible Pink Unicorn.

Clearly the existence of MLP: FiM validates the existance of the IPU.

Now that I think about it, the IPU is probably an alicorn.

The Invisible Pink Princess Celestia?

Now we know why Hasbro really mucked up the paint job on the toy.

Technically, Celestia IS a really light pink color, not white.  It's just harder to tell on TV when everything around her is darker in color.

My perception of her coloration matches what Wikipedia calls Snow (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Off-white#Snow), which while definitely being a super-diluted pink, is classified there as a shade of white.

However you want to classify her color, though, the toy is definitely way more pink than on the show.

I would so love to read your notes on this, I like making up religions but not based off things like what you have. I remember reading a book from some columnist years ago and she talked about making up a religion that embraced obesity called Fatsoism.

Apparently some students in Finland made up a religion as a joke, it didn't get "Official" status since you would need set amount of registered believers to do that but they did find use for it. One of the students was told to remove his hat while indoors so they simply wrote a letter to the headmaster saying that their religion demands that everyone of them must wear a hat at all times. Apparently the headmaster either took this seriously, or felt that arguing with them would be more trouble than it is worth and they were allowed to wear hats indoors.

Having met John Joseco at BroNYcon... he'd probably laugh and draw that.
