New solarpanels can cut down production costs by 60%

And that 60% is from a comparison where the new type panels are made in USA while the competition is in China. So, really affordable.

The fact that the amount of rare materials needed is also cut down is also great news.

The only silly bit is the 'Murrican commenter:

I am wondering, if your home has an array of solar panels and there is a serious electric grid problem, the visibility of these panels might subject you to being a victim of home invasion, by those wanting to get what you have, as in: a safe food supply, or a warm home in winter. seems like an open invitation.

On the same note, there was an intriguing topic recently, via statements made by the Bank Of Abu Dhabi.

Short version? "You could offer oil for $10 a barrel, and you'll never outperform solar"

Here's that article:  http://reneweconomy.com.au/2015/even-at-10barrel-oil-cant-match-solar-on-cost-37540

They should do well, as long as they don't hire this guy to sell them:

This is excellent news!  Maybe we'll find a way to make certain light-bending metamaterials cheaply some day and make these even more efficient by basically creating a light funnel.  That, or finally have a nice breakthrough with fusion and make most other non-green power options obsolete.

I would love to do solar. But right now it's too cost prohibitive. Hopefully this starts things in the right direction. Cheaper to buy and install, more durable, more effective. Fingers crossed.
