Is your sub-conscience ageist? Racist? Sexist?
« on: January 16, 2012, 02:57:26 am »

So far, I'm told I slightly prefer young over old, and I strongly associate career with male and family with female. Not surprising, since I grew up having the Bible cited at me.

I think pretty much everyone is at least a little subconsciously racist/sexist/ageist.

I got slightly racist (preferring whites to blacks) with a moderate preference for Democrats. Are we all taking the same test?

EDIT: I mean, mine didn't say anything about age or sex. Hence my asking?

I think a portion of it is bullshit, considering you're going to make mistakes when you're used to certain categories being on one side of the screen.

That's likely one of the issues they're controlling for when they alternate categories.

Your data suggest a slight implicit preference for Black People compared to White People.
Your data suggest a slight implicit preference for Barack Obama compared to Michele Bachmann.

Your data suggest little to no difference in implicit preference between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama.

I guess those Freepers were right when they said I worshipped minorities!

To be honest though, the pictures of the white people and the black people were... well... in black and white. And I don't differentiate faces that well - I've walked up to complete strangers before thinking they were friends.

I've done a handful of implicit association tests before, but to be honest I don't remember the results. I think they were on politics and religion.

The thread title is starting to distract me...it's conscious, not conscience, dammit! Also, dunno how true it is (care to tell me, psych people?) but one psychology professor said that Freud had called it the UNconscious, not the SUBconscious.

"There were too many errors made to determine a result."
I'd be more sympathetic if people here didn't act like they knew what they were saying when they were saying something very much wrong.

You have completed the Gender - Career IAT.
Your Result
Your data suggest a moderate association of Male with Career and Female with Family compared to Female with Career and Male with Family.

You have completed the Gay - Straight IAT.
Your Result
Your data suggest a slight automatic preference for Gay People compared to Straight People.

Hmm.

apparently I really hate Newt, and I slightly prefer whites to blacks. I'd be interested in my results with a minority we actually have a lot of here, such as Chinese people.

So my political part was too full of errors (that's what you get when you're testing tired! And not actually knowing the candidates by face) and apparently I slightly prefer white people over black.

And what did I learn today? Nothing.
