Title: Demotivationals
Post by: Shane for Wax on January 06, 2012, 03:19:05 am
Don't have to do the opposite of motivate, just have to not be 'hang in there!' kitty. :P Or maybe they can be.

I used to like demotivationals, then I took an arr- No wait what actually happened was that the demotivationals gradually got worse and worse.

Remember when they were like this?

They were supposed to be sad, funny, cruel and of course demotivational. Kinda like a joke on the motivational posters.

Now we get these:

What is the point? Half of the current demotivationals simply have a "silly" comment on the bottom of an already funny picture as if that would make it funnier. Most of the others work better if the text was simply in the picture without the black borders.

Tips From the Redneck Book of Manners

GENERAL TIPS
1.  Never  take a beer to a job interview.
2.  Always identify people in your yard before shooting at them.
3.  It’s  considered poor taste to take a cooler to church.
4.  If  you have to vacuum the bed, it is time to change the sheets.
5.  Even if you’re certain that you are included in the  will, it is still considered tacky to drive a U-Haul to the funeral home.

DINING OUT
1.  If  drinking directly from the bottle, always hold it with your fingers covering the label.
2.  Avoid throwing bones and food scraps on the floor as the restaurant may not have dogs.

ENTERTAINING IN YOUR HOME
1.  A centerpiece for the table should never be anything prepared by a taxidermist.
2.  Do not allow the dog to eat at the table no matter how good his manners are.

PERSONAL HYGIENE
1.  While ears need to be cleaned regularly, this is a job that should be done in private using one’s OWN  truck keys
2.  Proper use of toiletries can forestall bathing for several days. However, if you live alone, deodorant is a waste of good  money.
3.  Dirt and grease under the fingernails is a social no-no, as they tend to detract from a woman’s jewelry and alter the taste of finger foods.

DATING  (OUTSIDE THE  FAMILY)
1.  Always offer to bait your date’s hook, especially on the first date.
2.  Be aggressive. Let her know you’re interested:  ‘I’ve been wanting to go out with you since I read that stuff on the bathroom wall two years ago.’
3.  Establish with her parents what time she is expected back.  Some will say 10:00 PM; others might say  ‘Monday.’ If the latter is the answer, it is the man’s responsibility to get her to school on time.
4.  Always have a positive comment about your date’s appearance, such as, ‘Ya’ll sure don’t sweat much for a fat gal.’

WEDDINGS
1.  Livestock, usually, is a poor choice for a wedding gift.
2.  Kissing the bride for more than 5 seconds may get you shot.
3.  For the groom, at least, rent a tux. A leisure suit with a cumberbund and a clean bowling shirt can create too sporty an appearance.
4.  Though uncomfortable, say ‘yes’ to socks and shoes for this special occasion.
5.  It is not appropriate to tell the groom how good his wife is in the sack.

DRIVING ETIQUETTE
1.  Dim your headlights for approaching vehicles, even if the gun is loaded, and the deer is in sight.
2.  When approaching a four-way stop, the vehicle with the largest tires always has the right of way.
3.  Never tow another car using panty hose and duct tape.
4.  When sending your wife/girlfriend down the road with a gas can, it is impolite to ask her to bring back  beer.
5.  Never relieve yourself from a moving vehicle, especially when driving.
6.  Do not lay rubber while traveling in a funeral procession.

TWO REASONS WHY IT IS HARD TO SOLVE A REDNECK MURDER
1.  All  the DNA is the same.
2.  There are no dental records

Are you always jumping and sticking to the first idea you have about what an acronym means, or does the idea of acronyms having more than one meaning not even enter your head? [sarcasm]He said MW2, so of course he means Modern Warfare 2. Especially since he mentioned a fourth one[/sarcasm]
If (what I actually assume, since I'm generous like that) your post was supposed to be funny in its stupidity, it succeeded in stupidity and failed in funny.

Very few of these images are actually demotivational posters.

Remember when demotivational posters were actually demotivational instead of just another way to add an unfunny caption to an image? When they were actually a satire of the posters hanging around offices and schools?

I wanted to make a demotivational poster that has a picture of a coal power plant with "Some p-people try to b-bring us d-d-d-down" in the text.

Also, Admiral Ackbar on the bridge of his cruiser, with his head replaced by Malthus' and "It's a trap" below.

I disagree.   I looked at that 2nd post and you said...
Quote
They were supposed to be sad, funny, cruel and of course demotivational. Kinda like a joke on the motivational posters.
This is a picture of what 'friends' can do if you get drunk.  I find this sad (that people your drinking with would do this to you) funny (that of all the things to draw on someone - a tuxedo? really?) and cruel (with a sharpie? okay that's mean)  - I find it Demotivational for partying with people you don't know VERY well (or at least ones that have a cruel streak) and even you admitted you feel this guys pain.

It fits your definition.  All its missing is the cute motivational format and a better tag line.

I find it just as legit as this one
(http://funnydemotivationalposters.com/uploads/saved_posters/demotivational-poster-apemgrwuzh-FRIENDSHIP.jpg)

Unless you are trying to say that REAL Demotivational posters don't have funny/unusual pictures - they have the sappy 'pretty' pictures and then a snarky comment under them.  - which would be only on opinion/judgement of what could be considered DE-motivational...

That looks more like a WWI poster.

The poster says "We build body and soul" and it seems to date back to the 1930s. So... it's the right timeline but... the translation makes the picture seem a bit less... ah, gay.

Astronomy nit picking here! Actually a "falling star" is a meteor burning up in the atmosphere, not a true star.

Dude, there's lots of stars in that pic. Lots of them. And two meteors and trees and what appears to be a body of water off in the distance.
But claiming that all of those stars have died millions of years ago is wrong. Some are but not all of them.

And the "wishing upon a star" thing is done to a shooting star which is in fact a meteor. The meteors usually burn into bits in the atmosphere so you could claim that it is "dying" but it is not happening millions of years ago.

So either way, the statement is wrong and stupid.

We're talking about two different things, wishing upon a star and wishing upon a shooting star. Both are things, just two separate unrelated things.

Every time I have heard the "wishing upon a star" tradition it has referred to a shooting star. I have never heard anyone saying that you could make a wish to a real star before I saw that demotivational.

So when the creator of the demotivational said that the star you made a wish to "has been dead for millions of years" I assumed (s)he thought that shooting stars are millions of light years from Earth because otherwise the sentence makes no goddamned sense. You can see the meteor burning in the atmosphere and it certainly is not happening millions of years in the past.

As I recall, the first actual star to come out at night is also a valid wish receptacle. Though that's probably not what the demotivor meant, considering it uses an image of a shooting star.

a) I've seen bits of the Disney version occasionally but I've never seen a Pinocchio film completely and haven't read the story either.

b) No, but Finland does have different nursery rhymes.

Warning: The book is VERY different from the movie. Disney's Pinnochio comes off as a victim of circumstance whose naivety was taken advantage of by mean people. Pinnochio in the book is just a selfish little brat.
