Partners/Allies: Our Mutual Network
« on: September 17, 2013, 12:59:51 pm »
If we're going to take this blog/news site seriously and get it off the ground, we need to find partners to build an audience with. Does anyone have any idea for outlets that we'd be able to network with and/or leech an audience off of? Perhaps those of us who are interested in creating content can write for other sites that are amicable to cross-posting or, at the very least, okay with us giving shoutouts to FQA.

I currently write for The Good Men Project and Creative Edge Music. While the latter likely won't allow me to do much more than add a hyperlink to my bio, GMP has stated that I can do that, as well as host content from other sites and provide a link to the original. I have no problem with contributing to FQA, and using GMP to cross-promote when the topic is compatible.

There are a number of ways, though my favourite is simply to take them by surprise. They're just walking down the street, minding their own business when suddenly, WHACK! Penis to the face.

I've been kicking this suggestion around for awhile: given the high number of LGBT on this forum, as well as other SJAs, shouldn't the primary focus of FQA be social justice?

Perhaps, but the FQA banner wouldn't make much sense. Frequency Questioned Answers suggests that our purpose would be something along the lines of Snopes, and less in line with social advocacy. We can certainly do both; assuming that transpersons rights are next to be addressed, there are misconceptions that will need to be addressed and corrected. And it's not like sites such as Alternet and Think Progress aren't open about their support for equality, and other similar issues. If anything, such articles would need to be addressed from the appropriate viewpoint.
That's something I'm having to do when I write for GMP. It's a bit of a pain sometimes, but it's doable and, in some cases, helps provide some focus for the topic at hand.

I agree with this. The site's main focus isn't LGBT and other social justice issues, though it's certainly a major issue we can tackle. We have to balance that with politics, religious matters, science, etc.
Guys, this is getting creepy. Can we talk about cannibalism instead?

As I'm part of the furry fandom, Knotcast (found here:  http://www.foxstuffers.com/ ) covers a whole lot of various topics, sexuality and LGBTQA among them.  They've also covered things like politics and religion (like how to deal with fundie relatives) in the past and still do.  I could send an inquiry, if that'd be of any interest.
There is light and darkness in the world, to be sure.  However, there's no harm to be had in walking in the shade or shadows.

I currently write for The Good Men Project and Creative Edge Music.
I used to have a favorable opinion of The Good Men Project until I saw them posting articles by Chuck Ross of Gucci Little Piggy. GLP lists Matt Forney (a.k.a. "Ferdinand Bardamu"), Vox Day, Chateau Heartiste (a.k.a. "Roissy"), Roosh V, and The Spearhead as "approved" websites. Plus there was that controversy over GMP writers acting as rape apologists. I'm not trying to smear you by pointing this out because I too was originally under the impression that the website was for feminist men, but does no one at the GMP do any background checks?

Given the ease with which I signed up, I somewhat doubt it, though I haven't come across any recent articles that come close to these people. How recently did they write for GMP? It's possible there's been some cleanup since this occurred.
Given the frequency with which GMP has been requesting new contributors lately, I am inclined to think there's some decent turnover, either through retroactive moves on their part, or writers moving on to other things.

Huh, well that was quick. I swear that link and the other ones leading to Ross's pieces on the site were good links when I originally posted them. That was hours ago. Now all of them are broken. At any rate, I prefer Voice Male. Get it? It's a play on words ::)

Anyway, that seems a better feminist men's website to me anyway.

EDIT: Okay the links are working again. Maybe things are just glitchy. Anway, Ross's last piece seems to be late June of this year. He began writing for the GMP in 2011. So yeah it's impressive that no one has caught on to this guy.

One thought might be to get a few sites together that share similar interests with us but don't have forums, and make our forum a "hub" for all of them.
