The Let's Plays Thread.
« on: April 01, 2012, 05:54:02 am »
This is a thread for posting and discussing your favourite and most hated Let's Plays. Pretty self-explanatory, so without further ado, let's begin.

One of the best screenshot narative Let's Play's I've ever read, A Scotsman in Egypt. It's essentially a world conquest run of Medieval: Total War 2 as Scotland with an extremely well written story woven into it. It can drag on at times, but other than that, it's just epic.

Here we have an ongoing video let's play of Terraria that while the players are borderline incompetent, their banter and frustration at their usual failings are quite amusing. In fact, watching this series is what made me decide to get Terraria in the first place.

Finally, we have a video let's play of Super Mario 64 from what I imagine is the most English fellow in the world.

So yeah, have at it.

I've...actually been thinking of doing an LP of Thief II, but I'd need better recording software...and probably a better mic.

Anybody got any suggestions for either, I'd be much obliged.

I've been wanting to do some myself for quite a while, the only problem is my laptop struggles enough to play anything made later than 2004 as is, much less play and record at the same time. It's quite a shame really, as I'd have loved to do a blind Let's Play of Conker's Bad Fur Day.

I've found AgentJR's Let's Plays on YouTube are quite good, IMO.  Especially for Silent Hill 1-4 and the Resident Evil series.

Spoony's Let's Plays are hilarious when it comes to creating memes.

This is one of the best AARs I've ever read.
It is a HOI 3 (SF) AAR about the Soviet Union.

Ahh, that brings back memories. Back in 2007-2010, a good 30% of my internet time was dedicated to reading AARs on Paradox Forums, and I spent a shitton of time on the internet.

I mostly read Hearts of Iron II AARs, and I still remember three absolute gems. Democracy's Last Legs, a gameplay AAR in which AI Germany actually manages to fight off a human controlled UK and USA. Not only that, it's written well enough to feel like a desperate war of survival. The Setting Sun, not only does the writer manage to hold off the allies as Japan in the 1944 scenario, but actually manages to turn the war around and eventually annexes all of Asia and most of Europe (USSR included) and even launches an invasion of North America. Finally, there's Fatherland - Deutschland Uber Alles. Basically, the author does a world conquest as Germany after giving all AI nations 200%+ bonuses to resource income and industry and a further 100% on top of that to members of the Allies and Comintern. Much like The Setting Sun, it's stupid amounts of Hearts of Iron II skill.

Spoony's Let's Plays are hilarious when it comes to creating memes.

They are made less hilarious by his rabid fanbase that takes his jokes seriously.

I would hope you would, considering I replied to YOU O_o

Incidentally, you probably aren't a rabid fan that takes his jokes seriously.  So I'm not sure why you even care :P

Surprised no one's mentioned him yet, but about the only LPs I can stand to watch are those by the owner of the Epic No himself, ChuggaaConroy.

"Hello, this is HCBailly, and welcome to Let's Play FINAL, FANTASY, NUMBERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR.  Also, welcome to my wide variety of side LPs that are as every bit as entertaining as my main LPs.  And guess what?  I do more stuff than Final Fantasy!"

I'm currently watching his Let's Play of Super Luigi Galaxy and I must say it's quite good. Of course, I would expect no less, seeing as Chugga is equal to the likes of NintendoCapriSun and DeceasedCrab in terms of popularity.

I should also mention DiplexHeatedHD. He pretty much exclusively Let's Plays the Total War series so I'd recommend it to any strategy fan. On that note, I should also mention BoardGamerGirl for her Let's Play of Heroes of Might and Magic III. Though I'm not a big fan of her particular strategy, it does get results and her commentary is nice and detailed (something a lot of strategy Let's Plays are sadly lacking.
