Anyone else watch this show? I love it and I'm pretty upset it's not coming back until October.
Don't read the spoiler unless you've watched the entire thing or never plan on it.
I cannot wait for the second season. With the entire family now dead and trying to scare off the living from buying the house, the show can go in pretty much any direction.
My work here is done.
You rapscallion.
I've worked my way through most of the first season. A few comments:
- I'm surprised that I didn't see the Violet-is-already-dead twist coming. Usually I can predict those kinds of things. I'm losing my touch. :\
- God damn, is Hayden ever a psycho bitch.
- Constance is such a Karma Houdini. Or at least, she has been so far. It's possible she finally gets some payback before the season is over, but don't tell me -- I still have a couple more episodes to watch.
- Ben is a really shitty therapist. I get that the house is supposed to be messing with him, but even early on, before all the mind-fuckery, his manner was terrible.

My thoughts on your thoughts:
I didn't see the Violet thing either, and I usually see those things too. It's was pretty cool though.
Speaking of Violet, I can't stand her. Not since she let her mom go to a metal hospital just so she could stay with her stupid boyfriend. I don't like him either.
I agree, Ben is not a good therapist. And yeah, Hayden is completely insane. I feel a bit bad for her too though.
I really like Constance. I'm not sure why, but she's one of my favorite characters. I hope her character is in the second season.
I've heard that too, but it ended in a bit of a cliffhanger and I feel like they won't just never go back to that.
Are you referring to:
The evil, nanny-killing toddler?
I got the impression that the evil in the house finally managed to slip into the living world through the kid, whether that means he's the Antichrist, or some kind of embodiment of ghost rage, etc. -- it was mentioned at one point that whatever was present in that house wished to expand itself beyond the realm of the dead.
It's possible that they might revisit it later on. Personally, I would have liked just a teensy bit more closure, even though I'm normally quite fond of open-ended stories. I think the whole thing just felt a little bit rushed.

Yeah, that's what I'm referring to.
I got the impression that he is the Antichrist, and if that's true I think it would be pretty weird for the writers to be like, "Oh hey guys, Antichrist is here, but we're never going to mention it ever again."
I know the show is supposed to be totally different each season, but some things can't be forgotten. I feel like that would be pretty poor writing.
Damn, this show is addicting. I watched the whole show, save for the pilot today. It also has the most disturbing credits of any show I've seen.
I really liked the 12th episode and seeing them trying to make a positive of them all being dead, and trying to have a normal life. Even if that seemed to be totally ripped off of Beetlejuice.
Even knowing that Violet had died sometime during the series I wasn't sure when it happened until it was revealed. I'm normally good at picking up on small details and figuring plot points out early, so that was very well written.
I think the psychic was a fraud, and Michael isn't the anitchrist. We saw that the psychic's solution for getting rid of the ghosts didn't work. All of the talking with the dead she did with Constance could be achieved through cold reading and knowing Constance. Also the ghosts in the house can chose whether or not they want to be seen, so that would explain why she could see Violet in the house. Violet wanted the psychic to see her, so the psychic didn't realize she was dead. I think that Tate chose to make himself visible during the conversation, and that knowing the psychic knowing Tate's history told them to get him out of there, while spouting stereotypical bullshit about negative energy.
Constance had nothing but messed up kids. Even normal looking Tate was seriously messed up, and possibly a psychopath. Maybe he passed that on to his son, and Constance's mothering style surely wouldn't have helped. So I don't think that Michael is the antichrist, but just a very messed up child.

It's incredibly addicting. I managed to blow through the entire season in less than a week. The opening credits are definitely pretty cool.
I thought the psychic was a fraud too, until the scene where she knew that Violet was dead and mentally communicated with her (right before Tate appeared).
I was relieved when the "Croatoan" BS didn't work. I've seen way too many shows try to use the Roanoke Island story as a plot point -- I rolled my eyes when it was first mentioned. Chad's reaction to the "spell" was hilarious.

Me too! But I will admit, the psychic told a pretty good story. I liked the retelling, along with the flashback that went along with it.

Ah, I missed that the psychic didn't talk to Violet verbally. I got annoyed with Roanoke part. Why people keep portraying it as a mystery is beyond me.

Same designer that worked on the titling for Se7en, as I recall
Hah, when I made the post you were responding to, I was thinking about how much the opening credits reminded me of Se7en's intro.

A week or two before I started watching the show, I saw a movie that included the Roanoke story as a major plot point. I was sitting there like, "So, is this going to become a trend now?"
