How to interpret the book of Apocalypse/Revelation
« on: August 19, 2018, 06:50:05 am »
The Book of Apocalypse/Revelation is hard to interpret. It is full of imagery and leading to various interpretations. There are different theories of the 4 horses. I will show you what interpretations are correct and which are false.

First of all, there is no pre tribulation rapture. That concept is a Protestant concept from the 1800s and was not espoused by any of the major Christian figures throughout the history of Christianity. Christians will stay on Earth until the second coming of Christ.

Second, the book of Revelation talks about the entire history of Christianity up to the second coming of Christ. The Tribulation is what Christians have been going through for Two Millennia. The Antichrist has been around since the beginning of Christianity. This is what the four horses  represent. http://www.ewtn.com/v/experts/showmessage.asp?number=294825 The Antichrist is both an individual who will reign in the end times as well as a force of Anti Christianity that has been around since the time of Christ, beginning with the Pharisees, then the false messiahs that led revolts in Judea against the Romans, Nero, the heretical sects such as Gnosticism, Marcionism, Arianism, Islam, the Protestant Reformation, Atheism etc.

Due to the fact that Islam is the fastest growing religion, it is likely that the Antichrist who will rule over Earth in the end times will be a Muslim.

The 7 trumpets and 7 plagues will be God’s punishment on those who accept the mark of the beast. Then judgement day will come, and all ghosts of the dead will have resurrected bodies and those who died recently will go to the metaphorical Lake of Fire and those already in hell will be judged and sent back to hell. The righteous will live in the new heavens and new Earth.

Well holy shit, this is in fact a somewhat new topic for you. Good job. Just remember to rotate the produce every week or so, or it'll get stale real fast.

It's a DULL take, this is like an FAQ on the Vatican website, it's full of metaphor? Really? Ya don't say. It's more fun when they talk about literal smoke locusts, falling stars, dragons and shit. That's fucken metal!

Well the part that talks about the locusts, falling stars(meteorites) and other things is literal and talking about God’s punishment on those who accept the mark of the beast.

Actual answer to the thread title:

"As a badly-written work of fiction nobody should take at all seriously."

Also, just a reminder, nonbelief is growing faster than any religion, it's just starting from a far lower base. (And a good deal of its growth is probably people finally willing to admit that they don't believe in any religion's nonsense, not people newly convinced of the stupidities of religious doctrine.)
Quote from: Jordan Duram
It doesn't concern you, Sister, that kind of absolutist view of the universe? Right and wrong determined solely by a single all-knowing, all powerful being whose judgment cannot be questioned and in whose name the most horrendous acts can be sanctioned without appeal?

Quote from: Supreme Court of Canada
Being required by someone else’s religious beliefs to behave contrary to one’s sexual identity is degrading and disrespectful.

Well, horses for courses mate but I reckon as something not to be taken seriously it's a kind of demented fun, as if H.P. Lovecraft had a wet dream inspired by William S. Burroughs. I particularly recommend The Brick Testament's take on its batshittery.

It's absolutely bull-goose bonkers, and some people actually believe this shit!  ;)
