Ken Ham doesn't like science
« on: September 09, 2015, 03:26:34 am »
This shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who knows who Ken Ham is but his latest gripe with science is that not only does it make kids less religious it also makes them *gasp* support GLBT rights!

http://www.patheos.com/blogs/danthropology/2015/09/ken-ham-blames-science-for-childrens-acceptance-of-lgbt-rights-and-evolution/

Apparently schools in particular are to blame for teaching kids about science (this should not be a surprise to anyone who knows what schools are.) Luckily he already has a perfect solution to this problem: HOMESCHOOLING!

Quote
“When parents humbly start with the Word of God and build ‘from the foundation up,’ it makes a world of difference. Starting with the logical foundations of all the doctrine in Genesis, not trying to prove the Bible with science, but using the Bible to understand science, parents can teach children how to defend the faith by giving them answers to skeptical questions of the age,” he wrote. “This is how we need to teach our children — from the time they are born until the time they leave home.”
No matter what happens, no matter what my last words may end up being, I want everyone to claim that they were:
"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine."
Aww, you guys rock. :)  I feel the love... and the pitchforks and torches.  Tingly!

I cant help but wonder what he gets out of promoting this kind of ignorance.
I cant believe that he is a true believer. Is he hoping that by increasing the levels of ignorance people will send him money or something?

The more I see about Ken Ham, the more I see richly robed priests who were smiling on Calvary one day long ago.  And while homeschooling isn't that terrible as long as you're aiming for a decent education level for your children, we have a really poignant example of how "keeping your children's education holy" can become abuse*.  Not to mention Ken's "scientific" explanations of "well, God does that to show us how awesome he is, now shut up and keep reading these apologetics so you can stay out of Hell!"

Sylvana, I believe that Ken is convinced he's trying to "save" people but he's also enslaved by being law-bound, which makes him just as bad as the priests Jesus was opposing, and for the same reasons.  Dogmatic, self-interested and self-absorbed people who are more interested in their personal influence or padding their "get out of Hell free" buffer than honestly helping anyone.

*  and had to be rescued because he was going to be living in captivity after becoming an adult

[EDIT: changed my wording a bit because it sounded like I might be approving of him]

I think Mr. Ham's sincere, but I don't know if that makes it better or worse.

Likely worse, as it makes him more convincing.

It's a shame I haven't seen BigChrisfilm in months.  This would be an ideal opportunity for him to "go to bat for Jesus" as he was a YEC back on the pink boards.

Ken Ham, like many presuppositionalists, is a huge fan of the moral argument, which basically says that the moral impulse observed in most humans points to God. And therein lies the beautiful irony of the entire situation. That same moral impulse is why the gay rights movement is doing so well. People had more sympathy towards their friends who were being smeared as the ones responsible for natural disasters and terrorism than they did towards the "loving" deity who demanded they be tortured. And Kenneth can't understand this at all.

Apparently, being the home school classroom bully is an impulse Ken Ham thinks is moral. He likes himself so much, it's to the point of deriding other YEC colleagues. Look for official AIG home school curricula for sale soon, if it isn't a thing yet.

I sympathize completely. However, to use against us. Let me ask you a troll. On the one who pulled it. But here's the question: where do I think it might as well have stepped out of all people would cling to a layman.

Is it bad that I kind of miss the old days when we used to get a lot of fundie trolls to argue with?

As the Slacktivist once pointed out, "Ken Ham is from Australia.  You're not allowed to be a young-earth creationist and be from Australia.  I don't think you're even allowed to be a young-earth creationist and believe in Australia."

I don't know. From what I've heard, Australia isn't as open-minded as a lot of other developed countries, and it's actually more conservative than the USA in some areas (namely censorship and LGBT rights).

Australia actually banned small breasts in porn because they were afraid it might promote pedophilia.  That speaks volumes.

Humorously enough, calling small-breasted adult women everywhere childlike because they weren't busty enough for Australian politicians.

Um, isn't Australia the developed world's Arkansas? As seen from space, Australia is the island continent with the No Fat Chick's bumper sticker.
