Horrendous toll.  I must note that I fail to see the entertainment value in being assaulted by extremely loud noise in a small, dimly lit and very crowded enclosure.

Same here. I don't enjoy concert settings in general, but this place was crammed far beyond capacity.
Guys, this is getting creepy. Can we talk about cannibalism instead?

Apparently what they did was against the club policy, but the band did it anyways on a whim. I have a roommate from that area in Brazil, up in the US for college, and Jesus. The guy's basically in total grief.
The material needs a defender more than the spiritual. If there is a higher power, it can defend itself from the material. Thus denotes 'higher power'.

Saw a couple of pics of inside the club and a video or two of them laying out the corpses. It was a pile inside. People all stacked on each other

How do you always have access to the gory pictures of things like this so soon afterward?
History is full of maniacs, my friend, men and women of intelect, highly perceptive individuals, who's brilliant minds know neither restraint nor taboo. Such notions are the devils we must slay for the edification of pony-kind. Even if said edification means violating the rules of decency, society, and rightousness itself.

This avoidable tragedy is why fire codes (multiple exits, no pyrotechnics INDOORS) are needed.

But that's socialism.  Seriously I've heard people say OSHA is overregulating.  But then stuff like this happens.

Let me guess, office types and bean counters?

A lot of those regulations are literally written in blood because some poor bastard ended up showing everybody that there was a problem the hard way.

Well it's more of SHA regulations if not followed don't have consequences (work place comp suit payouts went down)

Nobody wants socialism or regulation unless it gets them what THEY want. As soon as it inconveniences them or they have to actually show kindness and assistance to others, they cry foul.

http://www.cbc.ca/news/world/story/2013/01/30/brazil-nightclub-fire.html

Quote
The owner of a nightclub in southern Brazil where more than 230 people died in a fire on the weekend deflected blame to "the whole country," his lawyer said Wednesday.

Attorney Jader Marques said his client, Elissandro Spohr, "regretted having ever been born" because of his grief over the fire, but still blamed Sunday's tragedy on "a succession of errors made by the whole country," including architects and inspectors charged with making sure the building was safe.

There's probably some truth to this, but it seems like so much finger pointing. What was it Harry Truman had on his desk...

Quote from: Jordan Duram
It doesn't concern you, Sister, that kind of absolutist view of the universe? Right and wrong determined solely by a single all-knowing, all powerful being whose judgment cannot be questioned and in whose name the most horrendous acts can be sanctioned without appeal?

Quote from: Supreme Court of Canada
Being required by someone else’s religious beliefs to behave contrary to one’s sexual identity is degrading and disrespectful.
