Tragedy in Brazil
« on: January 27, 2013, 11:09:33 pm »

A deadly fire in a Brazilian nightclub has tragically left at least 232 people dead. The fire, which was apparently caused by a botched pyrotechnics show, ignited a sound insulating foam on the ceiling which then released a toxic smoke that caused club goers to choke to death. In addition, it took place in a windowless building with only a single, blocked exit.

I bet the band members feel like utter shit. Seriously, using flares indoors, in such a crowded place? They should've known better.
Guys, this is getting creepy. Can we talk about cannibalism instead?

And without proper ventilation. Damn, this is one of my claustrophobic nightmares as well.

I'm almost disturbingly certain this kind of shit has happened before - and is one of the reasons for fire escapes. The triangle shirtwaist factory fire?

Brazil isn't very big on building codes.
Still can't think of a signature a year later.

^There was a similar incident in a nightclub that Great White was playing in a number of years back. Almost identical, too.

Jesus. That's horrifying. My prayers go out to them.

I've seen some news outlets claim the death toll has climbed to 245.

Yes, I remember that back in 2003 or so. 100 people died in the Rhode Island fire.

Saw a couple of pics of inside the club and a video or two of them laying out the corpses. It was a pile inside. People all stacked on each other

EDIT: Most sources say 233 so that's what I'm sticking with.

Horrendous toll.  I must note that I fail to see the entertainment value in being assaulted by extremely loud noise in a small, dimly lit and very crowded enclosure.
I am an old man, and I've seen many problems, most of which never happened.
