The post quoted is the 4th in the thread. The other three are the OP, armand, and Yla. So... yes, it was your initial post in this thread.
Oh, I was thinking of my edit as a seperate post. Sorry, my mistake.

Good, then we're back to my original point: The concept that you were talking about generalities is pure bullshit, not to mention severe backpedaling on your part.

Whatever. If you want to argue that you know what I mean when I'm telling you I mean something completely different, by all means. I hope this makes you happy.

This guy is a repeat offender who deserves to be in prison probably for the rest of his life.

However, let us take a slightly different approach. What if a person molested a child, was arrested, went to prison was put on the sexual offenders registry and also went to therapy? This is not someone with a history of repeat offenses, but it is someone who is on the sexual offenders registry and thus is legally not allowed near children. Before the flaming starts again, I would like to point out this is a hypothetical situation and not this specific person or somewhat crazy congregation. This is someone who wants to make the most out of their life after prison, and they have been given an opportunity at a church where the church makes the decision to deny children from attending when he works there.

Would any of you really have a problems with this?
Even sexual offenders who molested children learn from their mistakes. In this specific scenario quoted in the OP the molester clearly has not learned from his mistakes. However, there are many who do. These people who have done their time need to reintegrate into society.

In this hypothetical situation he would have to fulfill these requirements: 1) Be remorseful. Truly remorseful. 2) Have done all the therapy required and sign that he will not be around children in private. 3) Recognize that people will be wary of him.

If he can accept that, then he could be free to have any job he desires that doesn't involve being around children most of the day, 5 or more days a week (in a teacher capacity, say). If he were to become a pastor I would still have a problem with them bending over backwards for him. There are plenty of adult bible studies he could do, for instance. That solves all of our problems, yes? But then he'd also have to promise not to visit homes and have a chance to be around children in a private setting.

I agree with Shane.  The guy has shown ZERO remorse for the incident.  Hell, he's acting like he got a traffic ticket or something!  What he did was deliberate, and he's taking no responsibility for it.  Until he does, he gets ZERO sympathy from me.

Let the fucker burn.

Honestly, we have been trying to have conversation. It wasn't until very recently that you suddenly claimed this was generalities. This, previously, by your own words, stated that it was the Church's decision and that you were glad someone on the SOR was getting a second chance. There are more than one user here who feels you are being either deliberately obtuse, myself included.

The New Black Panther Party of Jacksonville is protesting this guy!

Quoted so Podkayne can see it.

Great. So what?

People always protest about pedophiles comming into their neighbourhood. In Australia, the phenomenon is called NIMBYism.

You obviously don't know a single thing about the New Black Panthers. They don't normally get involved in shit that doesn't involve bigots. That has got to tell you something. They do not want a man like this giving fuel to their enemies. Obviously, they have to believe he can do that along with the fact they are against such things in the first damn place.

Also, quoting so more people can see my little link dump. Important info in them all.

If multiple watchdogs (3 I can see in my linkdump) have devoted even 1% of their resources towards this guy, shouldn't that say something about the type of sick fuck he is?

Sandman got that I was talking about generalities. If I didn't make that clear enough from the start, I'm sorry. I'll try to do better in future.

Yes, because generally, SOR is a bad thing. In this specific case, this sounds like a bad guy. But that means its the justice system thats screwed up, not the church giving him a job.

Not being obtuse, having an opinion.

More info on this guy:

"Gilyard came to the Southern Baptist scene way back in the 1980s at First Baptist Church of Jacksonville. Gilyard was mentored by Jerry Vines and Gilyard preached multiple times at FBC Jax, telling his phony story of growing up homeless and living under a bridge. It was all a made-up story, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle back in 1991."

"Gilyard had a history of sexual misconduct (to put it mildly) in Texas in the 1980s and 1990s. Gilyard attended Criswell College where Paige Patterson was president at the time, and multiple women reported Gilyard's abuse to Paige Patterson with little effect until Gilyard himself admitted to Patterson that he committed adultery. Gilyard even tried to seduce a young member from First Baptist Church of Jacksonville in 1991 during a youth revival tour."

"Paige Patterson (President of the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary)knew that Gilyard had confessed to having sexual relations with multiple women who had come to Gilyard for counseling."

"Perhaps Gilyard's first signs of being a sexual predator were the accusations made against him at Concord Missionary Baptist Church in south Dallas where Gilyard was an associate pastor during his time at Criswell College.... and how Paige Patterson did not believe the accusations made against Gilyard by 25 women - some of which were allegations of rape and sexual assault."

"After Gilyard left Concord he became pastor at Victory Baptist Church in Texas. After Gilyard resigned in disgrace from Victory Baptist Church in 1991 over his sexual relations with women in the church, unbelievably, Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church - located about a mile from FBC Jacksonville - hired Gilyard to be their pastor in 1993! Members had no idea their new pastor was a sexual deviant who used his position as pastor and counselor to have sex with women."

This is the man you are saying deserves to be given a second chance (or should we say third, fourth, fifth, or maybe three-hundreth) to be a pastoral leader if the congregation wants. Why do they really want him? He was a gifted speaker and charismatic preacher who grew their tiny little church by leaps and bounds, built them a new sanctuary, and became a prominent figure in the local evangelical scene. He put them on the map. And now he has put them on the map in a darker manner. They see their support of him as some kind of loyalty, but they don't seem to understand that this man does not deserve their loyalty.

I'm sorry Pod, but I feel I must mention that YOU didn't know you were talking in generalities until I pointed it out.
