Title: Members only category?
Post by: ThunderWulf on January 14, 2012, 09:51:07 pm
On both the new board and the old board, people have had to post stuff they didn't want non-members to see in Flame and Burn.  Since this clogs up flame and burn and a lot of these topics (like the recent one to raise monney for helping Miles) aren't really that type of topic, I was thinking if maybe we could add a special section for just those kinds of topics so that people wouldn't have to post them in Flame and Burn, but could still have it in a section that only members could view.

Hmm. Good suggestion, hadn't thought of that. Will make one when I wake up, unless Nappy gets to it afore I do.

Now that we have this section, maybe a few other current threads deserve to be moved there?  Specifically I'm thinking of the member pictures thread.  Some people (myself included) may be more comfortable posting pictures there if it's only accessible to members.

Good idea! I'll move it. And as I thought, that's Hatsune Miku... lol, the avatar confirmed it for me. So's mine for the avatar.

So P&W, F&B, and CC will be under the same category on the main page?

Nope. CC is under FSTDT Community, not under Rubbish. P & W and F & B is staying right where it is.

I meant we could put all 3 under "Member's only" and get rid of rubbish.

Also, NSFW.

Not renaming the category, nor am I going to move the subforum over to where Rubbish is now. It's named so for a reason. Don't think that's necessary.

Just a thought: I am always logged in. So I don’t get the only hint that any area is Members Only—which is that it doesn’t appear unless you are logged in. To me, the members-only areas always appear. Now, when I first saw the description for this new forum, I didn’t really understand what “Confidential” was supposed to mean. I just wonder if it would be a good idea to put a more explicit note that it is members-only somewhere on it, just so people who would want that can be really sure that that’s the case.

A current Mod/Admin will need to verify this list, but before Preaching, Flame and Burn, and NSFW were all forums you needed to be logged in to view. The new confidential forum I assume is the same way, otherwise it wouldn't be confidential.

Well, on Pro-Boards, all the forums were visible as existing in the board list. But if you tried to enter a members-only board without being logged in, you would get a message saying it was members only. I just logged out and then in to check it out before making my last post, and on this one, the members only boards do not appear at all. If you are not logged in, you won’t even know they exist.

I'm still wondering why F&B IS Members Only. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to link to a rant.

I think it's so that the people we're ranting about can't accidentally find the rant about themselves. I know we usually use pseudonyms, but it's better to be safe.

Does it really matter if they find the rant?

If the fundamentalist co-worker finds out you've been calling him that "asshole in cubicle C3 who might as well be sucking Ron Paul's cock" I could see there being some issues with HR.

If it matters to that asshole in cubicle C3 who might as well be sucking Ron Paul's cock what I say about that asshole in cubicle C3 who might as well be sucking Ron Paul's cock, then he's not paying enough attention to his job of being an asshole in cubicle C3 & sucking Ron Paul's cock.

But HR rarely sees it that way. Especially if the asshole in cubilce C3 is part of HR.
