Title: Fictional objects you want.
Post by: I am lizard on April 07, 2014, 01:28:12 am
A fun thread idea I thought of. Basically just say what fictional stuff you would want, be it weapons or otherwise.

...Well, I'm not going to bother listing all those different spaceships that I'd want since that would just take too much time. A space elevator would be nice as well.

Psi amp from X-com or that whatever-chamber from the remake.

NO lightsabers as I would accidentally cut my head off with it or something. "I know! I'll just take two of those and put a rope between them so that I can swing them like a nun-chuck. I can foresee no way for this to backfire!"

Or maybe something like that nanomachine thing that the BBEG in Metal Gear Revengeance had. That would be cool.

For the sake of this thread lets just say nothing larger than a tank.

Also, I'd either want a phaser or a sonic screwdriver.

Something simple and easy to control that would allow me to fly. Kind of like the brooms in Harry Potter, only something that in practice wouldn't chafe my nads raw after only an hour or so of flight.

Well, I guess I can't have Metal Gear REX, RAY or EXCELSUS so I guess I'll go with the Solid Eye from MGS4.

It's not really an object, but can I have the economy of the Star Trek universe?

Quote from: Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek:  First Contact
The economics of the future are somewhat different. You see, money doesn't exist in the 24th century...  The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force of our lives. We work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity.

I want dragons.  I don't care if that's not considered an 'object'.  I want my dragons, dammit!  Either large ones that I can make friends with and ride, or small ones that don't get too big and can perch on my shoulder like a large bird, maybe a little bigger (I keep picturing Dani's dragons before they became adults).

I always wanted the watch from Bernard's Watch, which was a kids tv show about a boy who had a watch that could stop time.

I hated the main character though, because he had the power to stop time, but only used it for completely mundane things like having a nap at school between classes.

But that's enough about me ruining your childhood dreams. Iron man suit would be awesome. I wouldn't even use it for evil, just playing with it or doing good would be fun enough.

The Infinity Gauntlet. No question.

All I need. All I've ever wanted for as long as I remember. "With godhood, nearly all things become possible."

Though I might settle for the Cosmic Cube.

After all, why think small? Get something that would enable you to do anything you want, knowing anything, reshape reality to anything you desire.

I don't know.. I'd want something powerful enough that it would allow me to easily carry out lot's of evil Machiavellian plans, but not so powerful that I don't need to spend a bit of time thinking up said plans whilst pushing tiny models of boats and planes around a map of the world with one of those pointy stick things.

So being able to just magic up anything you want up kind of crosses that line for me.

Could I get all the powers of the Darkness without having the malevolent entity living inside me, waiting to kill and devour every human I come across?  (Powers ARE objects!  ...If you're a programmer, lol.  ...IT WAS FUNNY TO ME!)

Outside that, I'll take a cubic centimeter of programmable nanites.  Have a convenient controller that'd double as a smartphone (or perhaps have the controls as a smartphone application), and I'd be able to do damn near anything.  Including using the nanites to make more nanites.  Oh, or, instead of a controller thingy/program, why not wire the controller so I can control them with a thought?

No rule says you can't still do those things. Even Doctor Doom when he had the Beyonder's power still used calipers and maps when plotting to invade Mephisto's realm. You could limit yourself to one infinity gem at a time if you still wanted the challenge.

Perhaps have a filter in the controller's software that prevents operation when it detects that you're asleep or otherwise unconscious?  Outside, of course, protecting your body, like if you were knocked unconscious in a car crash and broke bones, the software would tell 'em to patch you up.

Actually they can. The yellow weakness was from the Parallax fear entity trapped in the main Lantern on Oa and once that entity was freed and defeated the rings no longer had their weakness to yellow provided the wearer's will was stronger than their fear.

Also, Kyle Rayner's ring never had the yellow weakness.

A Green Lantern's only weakness is it wearer. If the wearer can conquer his/her fear (which is what the color yellow represents; as you know green is willpower) yellow objects can and will be affected... Dumb dumb.

Though that reminds me, a full set of diamond armour would be fantastic. Not for use as armour, obviously, but because it would be worth more than the total GPD of most 3rd world nations.

Second the vote for a green lantern ring (and the lantern that goes with it, obvs). Forms any construct you can imagine, gives you flight, telekinesis, energy blasts, a powerful shield, and allows you to breathe and navigate in space? And all that for something that fits around your finger? Hell to the motherfucking yes.

the system Destroyer Damia From Gall force.  Why? I think destroying an entire Solar system with one shot is way better than one Planet a shot. (the death star has a good deal of power but I like my destruction to be..  how do you say.. more wide spread.)

In the spirit of one-upmanship, I hereby call Davros' reality bomb.

yep that is one hell of a weapon

i do not want to destroy the multiverse there would be nothing else to blow up for fun..

I always wanted the watch from Bernard's Watch, which was a kids tv show about a boy who had a watch that could stop time.

I hated the main character though, because he had the power to stop time, but only used it for completely mundane things like having a nap at school between classes.

I REMEMBER THAT SHOW!! And I wish i had that watch.

I'd want one if only so I wouldn't have to worry about getting my work done on time.

I suspect a lot of people would use it for rapey things though.

Hmm. I just used to daydream about robbing banks with it.

Spider Robinson actually wrote a book about a man who had a time-stop watch who did rapey things with it.  Called "Lady Slings the Booze."  Mind you, that was about the first half of the book.  The last half was about pacifists mining the sewers of the World with nukes.

What fictional stuff I'd want?  Teleporter.  Or for the pizza place to have a teleporter.  I'd also like politicians who are not entitled shits, and actually listen to people and not their corporate masters.  That's about as likely to happen as the teleporter.

Not sure how great that would be, considering how many things went wrong with it in Star Trek.

How about the OASIS and the visor/haptic gloves you use to access it from Ready Player One?

That's why the only thing that'd be teleported would be inanimate objects.  Like Pizzas.

This guy right here:

Meet "Hector," a MkXXXIII Bolo.  Hector is a fully sentient 32,000 ton main battle tank with primary armament consisting of three 200cm Hellbore turrets, which are essentially plasma cannons whose ammunition consists of steel-jacketed slivers of high-pressure, frozen deuterium, which is heated and compressed to the fusion point by powerful magnetic fields and extreme acceleration; the result is essentially a massive Castle Bravo-scale thermonuclear blast compressed into a pencil-thin beam of pure boom, and their firepower is measured in multiple megatons per second.  They can maul an enemy fleet at greater distances than from the Earth to the Moon, or instantly slaughter anything short of another Bolo or unit of equivalent power.   Secondary weapons consist of sixteen 30cm Hellbore infinite repeaters, four 240cm howitzers and ten 40cm mortars for indirect fire, various flavors of antipersonnel flechette cannons for those tender, intimate moments, and for that special touch that means so much, a VLS-array loaded with a wide assortment of thermonuclear party favors.  It can deploy from orbit, has a top land sprint-speed of better than 100km/hour, carries a contingent of non-sentient Golem tanks for extra fire support, and drones and small aircraft for close-air support and surveillance.  For all intents and purposes, it is a land-mobile, fusion-powered aircraft carrier that can actually fly, using its contragrav systems to reach a top airspeed of about Mach 1 when it really needs to hustle somewhere in a hurry.  It is referred to as a Planetary Siege Unit.  An earlier, less-capable, more primitive mark of Bolo was actually able to burrow out of 200 meters of concrete and backfill and, while hideously damaged, dig a tunnel for several klicks underground while running on its nearly-flat batteries alone.  It is a white knight, perfectly loyal, vicious in war, yet compassionate and merciful wherever possible, and is an exemplar of the best traits Humanity has to offer.

It enjoys composing poetry and music.

Also, since I'm just wishing, one of these:

Yeah, but you can make perfect waffles with it.  So there's that.

So not a problem for the ladies, then?

The bigger problem is that, being a comic book villain's weapon, it'll probably cause you to lose. At the very least, it'll rebound on you in ironic ways. Better to go with something on the Good side. Like...

The Golden Axe, chosen weapon of the great tyrant Death Adder.

Part of it is made of all things, a dragon-god's soul. This confers unto it unimaginable force and divine strength, presumably of the flaming death sort of strength. That, and you gain the other parts by mass murder of monsters!

Let's not get into what happens when you get close to weaker enemies with it. That's just gory.
