Now hold on. I cannot BELIEVE I am actually saying anything even tangentially in defense of anti-gay people, BUT...

It's a little unfair to say "gay marriage opponents" say this. One person did. A senator's wife, sure, but even if that one senator thinks that way, or he's swayed by his wife, it doesn't change much. That's one vote out of 100, and to ascribe the racist sentiment to ALL gay marriage opponents is unfair.

Instead, feel free to use any of the OTHER stupid shit other gay marriage opponents say to nail them to a wall.

Keep in mind that, if this is true, the person was saying this to other people. Considering how utterly despicable such a thing would be to anyone with a conscious, the person saying it likely believes those hearing it would agree with their stance. Since this is being reported by people who overheard the statement, not the people the statement was addressed to, we can assume they did in fact agree--or at least didn't disagree strongly enough to take it to the press.

And, let's be honest: have you ever met a racist who wasn't also a homophobe?

While certainly not all opponents of gay marriage feel this way or would agree with the statement, it's hardly a stretch to believe there's quite a few out there who do.

I have no doubt that they exist, especially considering how some gay people blamed the black community for Prop 8 passing.

Have I met one?  No, not yet.

That's kinda beside the point, though.

All I can say, though, is that the GOP seems to be remarkably good at making offensive non-sequiters that only seem to embarrass what logical conservatives remain.
