Fighting Cancer - With HIV
« on: June 20, 2013, 06:45:55 pm »
Doctors used the HIV virus to genetically modify T-cells of a 6-year old dying of leukemia.

It worked. She survived, and is cancer-free. (Doctors modified the virus so it does not reproduce and lead to AIDS.)

Okay, that's just fucking genius.  Working with this, I wonder if there isn't a way to use HIV to program the immune system...to kill HIV.  I know its an extremely quickly-adapting virus, but this sounds freaking sweet, and it could prove useful for a lot of shit, maybe even autoimmune disorders.

That said, I've stopped trying to anticipate what people around here want a while ago, I've found it makes things smoother.
For I was an hungred, and ye told me to pull myself up by my bootstraps: I was thirsty, and ye demanded payment for the privilege of thine urine: I was a stranger, and ye deported me: naked, and ye arrested me for indecency.

Is this an actual case of two negatives equaling a positive?  How cool is that?

Here's hoping this actually gets mainstream press coverage. I remember that baby that was cured of HIV. It was a SIDE BLURB in the newspaper. Not the main story, a side blurb. HIV Cured, Nobody Gives A Fuck.
What I used to think was me is just a fading memory. I looked him right in the eye and said "Goodbye".
