Creationism and Oil Corporations
« on: December 31, 2012, 04:26:45 pm »
I recently had a thought about if creationism is true, do oil corporations hire them to help them find oil. I've searched online on the matter and it's probably not the case. Any of your thoughts on this?

I'm confused. Why would an oil company hire creationists to help them find oil?

If you look at it logically, cannibalism has great potential to simultaneously solve our overpopulation and food shortage problems.

My apologies, I forgot to mention specifically Young Earth Creationism.

I'm still confused as to why they would do this. Are the YECs supposed to pray for a gusher or something?

Oil companies employ geologists to help them find oil, which makes sense. Since Creationism is as much a claim about earth science as it is about biology (even if that part isn't nearly as frequently discussed), there's a certain conceptual nexus here. Of course, the fact that geologists actually get results while creationists might as well use a dowsing rod may say something about the relative merits of the two.

Since YECs specifically deny that the Earth is old enough for oil to have formed, and believe that it was all done during the Great Flood, they'd be spectacularly useless for the task.  So no, no oil company with any sense will hire young Earth creationists.

There are many YEC's who think that oil is an infinite resource though. Maybe oil companies might hire them as "experts" to prove that they should drill a ton, or something?

I've gotta admit, I think this thread is one of the most spectacularly stupid things I've seen in a while.

There is an oil company that does just such a thing. It's called Zion Oil and Gas, and it has spent millions in investor capital trying to find oil in Israel based on vague biblical passages that, when using certain interpretations, suggest it exists. After 10 years of drilling in locations that were determined "scripturally," they've come up with nothing.

Isn't it obvious? To get rid of the evidence! If oil is liquid fossils, it would put many a YEC'er out of work. So they get themselves hired by the oil companies to GET RID OF THE EVIDENCE! *gets rid of tinfoil hat and chucks it out of here* OKAY, which of you bastards put Donald Trump's hairpiece in my tinfoil hat? Seriously, that thing's a parasite.

Never thought of it that way.

Anyways, if they wanted to, would oil corporations contribute money to old Earth geologists or young Earth creationists? I mean, with the whole right wing religion and stuff supporting oil corporations, but for profit they would obviously need geologists.
