And Tom Baker was a well-established actor by the time he took on the role.
Kinda sorta.  He still kept his day job of building construction until he took on the DW role.

Cleese. Because it would be HILARIOUS.

The new Doctor might not be known just yet but we have the new companion's actress out.

The curiously unreported name of said actress being Jenna Louise-Coleman, who apparently played a lesbian in Emmerdale and a schoolgirl in Waterloo Road. I can't help but detect a subtle trajectory here.

Marvel reviews, "Last Movie You Watched", p. 75-76.

I may be getting old or something, but she looks about 15 or so.  Nice sweater.

Given that both of Moffat's Christmas specials so far have been based on existing works ("A Christmas Carol" and "The Doctor, the Widow, and the Wardrobe"), I wonder if this Christmas Special will follow suit when introducing this new companion.

If so, I think the best existing Christmas work to get a Doctor Who re-imagining would be "It's a Wonderful Life".  Series 5 and 6 were all about all the damage the Doctor has done and how much the universe has turned against him, and with him losing the Ponds in a "heartbreaking" manner in the episode prior to the special, I think it would be awesome to send him on a trip through time to see all the good he's done, and what the universe would be like without him (I know "Turn Left" already kinda did this, but the Doctor wasn't there to see any of it, and Donna didn't realize it was wrong).  And somewhere along the way he picks up new girl.  Hell, maybe she's the guardian angel.

Back on-topic, I reckon Kevin Eldon would make a pretty good Doctor.

I may be odd, but I miss Donna.  I actually liked her.

Ey, you ain't the only one.  I'm fond of pretty much all the new companions, except Rose.  Well, after a while...when whoever wrote at the time decided it'd be nifty if her character development stopped dead and turned into a borderline-Canon Sue.

Me too.  As I said some time ago, I was surprised by how well she played the role.

I think the next Doctor should be either Eddie Izzard or Craig Ferguson.  They're not in fitting with the whole younger actor thing, but they're both awesome.  Also, British (okay, Ferguson is Scottish).  Unless they'd actually consider a Yank for the position...

Donna was actually my favorite companion (except maybe Amy).

I thought Donna was the best since Sarah Jane Smith.  Ah well.
