Sorry, it's late PM where I am right now.

It's not exactly something you'd expect from Sweden.
-
Just proves the police are shit no matter where you are.

Helpful Advice to All: Don't gather 1,500-strong in the city square, throw firecrackers and smoke bombs, scuffle with police, and expect the police not to react. If you ignore this advice and participate in the group activity, don't piss and moan when you get knocked on your ass.

Not necessarily. There are some good police departments out there. I've heard the LAPD has really cleaned up its act.

Still seems like the police did many things wrong. Why excuse their behavior?

There actions don't justified the polices.

That, and they were demonstrating against literal Nazis.
You cannot go overboard when dealing with Nazis.

Niam. One day you are going to have to learn that some things are just wrong. And you can't really say that you are better than someone if you sink to their level.

That honestly confuses me. You guys that take the moral high road...I'll never get you.

You say that like it is a bad thing...

It's very simple really. If you loose sight of your moral compass you risk becoming the monster you fight. It happens because once you can justify retracting any restraint from your actions on one group it only becomes a matter of degree as to how vicious and evil you can become.
While a select few individuals may be able to maintain their focus and not fall into this trap, the cannot be said for the general population.

As Nietzsche said, "He who fights monsters must see to it that in the process he does not become a monster". It might be easy to inflict evil unto evil, but that makes us no better.

Very true.

Regardless of the cause you support (or protest), it's generally a bad idea to provoke the police. The horses were used exactly as they are intended to be used under these circumstances. They are big and intimidating, and they excel at breaking up crowds. It's unfortunate -- but not unexpected -- that people got hurt. But the cops weren't swinging sabers, or even nightsticks.
-
Hm, given how fast those things move, it'd be impossible to avoid the horses. But with a knife in hand, I might've be able to at least leave a mark by holding the knife up as the horse moves overhead.

How in the hell do you think trampling by horses isn't meant to hurt people? It seems to me that the Swedes need to learn proper crowd control if their only solution to riot is trampling by horses.
No pasarĂ¡n!

Mounted police are fairly standard in Europe for breaking up riots for pretty much the same reasons mediaeval knights were mounted.

I repeat: if you participate in the provocation, don't piss and moan when you get knocked on your ass.

Disproportionate retribution is a very damn good reason to "piss and moan".
