Everyone wears hoodies. I live in a predominantly white, rather affluent community, and you go to the store, and around half the people in the store are wearing hoodies. Hell, I wear a hoodie every day from about October to April. The whole "hoodie = gangsta" thing the Zimmerman supporters are spewing is irritating.

Same. Although there are so many Asians in my community that to call it "predominantly white" is a bit of a stretch.

I'd be more sympathetic if people here didn't act like they knew what they were saying when they were saying something very much wrong.

Capitalism does not work that way. I mean, is it really that hard to understand that plenty of people work hard and get absolutely nowhere? I mean my dad works all his life (except for a brief period where he was made redundant) and his pay is comparatively worse now than it was before. A lot is dependent on whether you have the skills wanted in an economy for example, which may be down to nothing to do with personal choice (eg. you went to a poor school), or even that your skills become irrelevant over time (e.g handloom weavers in the nineteenth century). Plenty of people pour time and dedication into their own businesses and they still fail.

I'm sorry, but I am not very proud to live in a nation with a government that thinks it's okay to tell me what to do with my uterus, or tell me who I can and can't marry, or refuse to give me decent health care.

This. As well as every war said gov't feels the need to fight, and the rich people who own said gov't while paying nothing to maintain it.

I also feel no need to take pride in something I had no choice in.

Much like one's own children, you can love something, but not be too proud of them.

Echoing the sentiments here. I'm not proud of the shit my country's gotten itself involved in, but it's not like I BAWWWWWWWWWW about it and "apologize" for being American. I can't help it.

I don't have to join the rest of the masses in mindless flag-waving and international pissing contests to "prove" I'm proud of my country. Patriotism should be like religion: not mandatory and not in public.

[snip image] When was the last time you heard a Liberal say "I'm proud to be an American!"?

Right before the kind of people who ask this kind of "question" started SHITTING UP THE WHOLE COUNTRY.

Funny that.
