Title: Reddit-Cesspool of the Internets
Post by: Rabbit of Caerbannog on October 20, 2012, 11:29:04 pm
Right now the long time Reddit user violentacrez has been outed by Gawker (http://gawker.com/5950981/unmasking-reddits-violentacrez-the-biggest-troll-on-the-web). I won't even bother explaining the kind of disgusting stuff this creep is responsible for because the article and the CNN interview below do that job well enough:

And I here I thought nothing could be worse than 4chan.

How horribly wrong I was.

On 4chan, if you post child porn or creep shots of nonconsenting girls you meet in public, then the admins will report you to the authorities and possibly IP ban you personally. At the very least, Anonymous will track you down and make your life a living hell.

On reddit, if you post child porn or creep shots of nonconsenting girls you meet in public, then the admins will give you your own subreddit and make you the moderator.

To be honest, I don't really care that he made a subreddit on rape jokes.  Seems kinda like a ArsonMurderandJaywalking punchline.

Child Porn. Dead Children. Rape Jokes.

Yeah, this guy is nothing but scum.

I doubt he has a high life expectancy, now that he's been outed for all...that.

If there is one thing I always want to say on this community (in fact, any community on the internet), it is that I do not want to be in any way or fashion associated with Reddit.

Of all the horrible communities that are not entirely focused on heinous subjects, like 4chan and The TVTropes Forums, Reddit is that site that I want to bar myself from any association of. Pedophiles, rape apologists, racists, sexists (which overlaps "rape apologism"), homophobes, transphobes, etc., all people I want to stay the fuck away from (and yes, I'm aware that Reddit is not homogenous, but still, eww).

I'd also like to point out that "Violentacrez" looks like Commander William T. Riker, if he really fucked himself over.

Forgive my ignorance, but what was up with this guy? I just suddenly started hearing about him gettin busted, but what was his whole deal?
Title: Re: Reddit-Cesspool of the Internets

Reddit is one of the single worst communities on the internet.

This "Violentacrez" has been a well-known figure to me for sometime now, and he was actually really close friends with the Reddit admins. He was one of the single most popular users on the entire site. Reddit loved this guy.

Shortly after the Gawker post that outed him was put up, Reddit's administration and userbase responded by banning links to all Gawker-affiliated websites in a mad scramble to defend him. After the whole fiasco caused him to lose his job, Reddit set up a donation drive to support him.

They do all of this while having the audacity to claim that they are some liberal progressive bastion of the internet.

Reddit needs to be burned to the ground.

Being a horrible human being.

He was a creator and mod of hundreds of different subreddits, including the infamous r/jailbait, r/creepshots, r/beatingwomen, and r/picsofdeadkids

He also openly bragged about having sex with his 17-year-old step-daughter.

And Reddit fucking loved him. He was something of a celebrity there.

Yeah, even 4chan doesn't like Reddit (though I'm saying this as a regular of /m/, a "worksafe" board, rather than as a /b/tard (which I'm not)).

I don't like the concept of outing this, if what he was doing was illegal (dunno about american law), gawker should have contacted the authorities.

If it was not illegal, then fuck you gawker. Either way I dont agree with them releasing his identity.

Rape is a terrible crime.

So are murder and torture, but lots of people here (myself included) joke about that.

...That being said, it depends on the joke, and knowing rape jokes, very few (read: almost none, to the point where I don't remember ever reading a good one) are actually in any way remotely good or funny.  And regardless, this guy needs his ass kicked to Pluto and back.

The far side of Pluto.

The way I see it, all those poor girls whose upskirt pictures (and god knows what else) were posted on Reddit had their identities unfairly plastered online--all while he hid behind an anonymous handle. I don't feel sorry for him in the least. I'm glad he was outed and glad he was fired.

EDIT: And for those of you who still don't know what's going on, the embedded link in my original post does a great job of detailing the whole situation.

You people are aware this guy created r/Jailbait and various other subreddits dedicated to taking pictures of underage girls, that's 17-13, and plastering them all over Reddit?  This guy was a creep of the creepiest creepy order.  Him losing his job doesn't cause me to shed one tear.  If anything he should be in jail for the distribution of child pornography.

Ironbite-guy creeps me out and the fact that people defend him creeps me out further.

Vigilante justice leaves a bad taste in my mouth because of the potential for mob mentality and witch-hunting to kick in, but I honestly can't bring myself to feel anything other than schadenfreude for this sick creep and any bad press Peddit gets as a result of this. Plus, the authorities have done nothing in this case, à la Mabus.

Members of ShitRedditSays—which is a clusterfuck of fail of a completely different variety in its own right, but that's neither here nor there—have reported, several times with no result AFAIK, both Violentacrez and Peddit itself to the authorities: Violentacrez for obvious reasons, Peddit for being extremely complacent and turning a blind eye to the creeper communities, which range from legal but incredibly distasteful (rape jokes) to blatantly illegal (taking voyeuristic pictures of people—underage people at that—without their consent and sharing them online).

Of all the horrible communities that are not entirely focused on heinous subjects, like 4chan and The TVTropes Forums,
Wait, what's wrong with TVTropes?

Am I the only one who doesn't see the big deal? Sure, he seems to have some creepy interests. But the way everyone thinks he's detestable scum seems like a huge overreaction to me. It's especially worrisome to me that IB thinks people who post pictures of fully clothed teenage girls online should go to jail for it.

Probably.

Having a collection of surreptitiously taken upskirt "creep" shots is...what's the word...illegal. As is child porn. Deal with it.

The argument that a lot of Redditors have been using to defend him has been "well, if they didn't want their pictures on the Internet, then they shouldn't have put them [on Facebook/whatever] in the first place." Another argument has been that they're exercising freedom of speech and that it's perfectly legal to take photos of girls in bikinis without their permission.

I'm going to say that it is deliciously ironic that they are now crying foul when those same arguments are coming back to bite them in the ass.

Of all the horrible communities that are not entirely focused on heinous subjects, like 4chan and The TVTropes Forums,
Wait, what's wrong with TVTropes?

Yeah. I can see the problem with Reddit and 4chan, but... TVTropes?

The creepy interests aren't the problem. It's the fact that he's posting pictures of people online without their consent. That in itself is a violation of privacy. Then of course there were the up skirt photos of under age girls, which I believe should speak for itself.

He's taking upskirt photos of young girls and spreading them around the internet without these girl's knowledge. He then posted them on a sub-form filled with rape fantasies and pornographic images.

And he wasn't the only one who got caught doing this. Another user was a teacher who was taking creepshots of his underaged students.

One of the comments pretty much summed up my opinion - partycloud22:

Partlycloudy22 1 of 75 replies @RushISRightOn 9 days ago

No one has stopped him from posting on Reddit. Hell, no one has stopped him from starting up a new anonymous account. His freedom is still fully intact. Freedom of speech does not guarantee anonymity, nor does it protect you from social or societal repercussions. He's as free as ever he was.

As for the argument Brusch did nothing illegal - well, neither did Adrian Chen. He just connected the dots that Brusch himself left behind.

Don't think yourself brave or clever or revolutionary or patriotic for saying offensive things for the point of being offensive. That's not the purpose of freedom of speech. Yes, you can cling to its coattails and ride along, but always remember: you're just some asshole tagging along. You're like a child doing something just because he knows he can get away with it. You're legalistic in the worst way.

Ew, the OP that person replied to is "RushISRightOn."

Rush Limbaugh is a bad person and you should feel bad for supporting him.

Also, I agree with the responder, that Freedom of Speech is a shield, not a sword. Don't you EVER think their are no consequences in the bullshit you are legally entitled to say. I mean look at TigerHunter, he's getting his ass whipped clean for defending child pornography.

(Yes, I'm aware that person won't read this post or even know who the hell TigerHunter is, but if he did, he would think Fundies Say The Darnest Thing is, in the sensationalist slag Rush would say, "Some Fascist Liberal foundation against Christianity.")

I'll put it this way, I read over it to see which articles have been deleted and added over time. It's fun watching the puritanical over reaction to random accusations.

I've found plenty of interesting reading only to check back a week later and find it deleted because it was most certainly questionable. Albiet some of them where interesting handling of questionable material. That last bit doesn't seem to matter a whole lot one someone levels a random claim.

To add to that, most subreddits self-police; admins usually take a very hands-off approach to moderation, which partially lead to the whole trouble with free speech. So its the Mods which have the power to turn the place into a shithole or a place where constructive discussion can take place. If the mod is someone like ViolentAcres, you know what to expect. And usually, with significant exceptions, each subreddit leaves the other alone.
