Atlas Fugged: Business Owners Who Lay Off Staff 'cuz Obama Won
« on: November 11, 2012, 12:04:46 pm »
This new fad among the douche-bag set has got me mad.....

Here's a post I made on MSN earlier today in reaction to Papa John's owner John Schnatter joining the baby-with-the-bathwater tossing frenzy.

I worked in the restaurant business for decades, in every capacity, including co-owner. Group insurance is affordable, now, but the owners like John are just used to demanding total teamwork from their workers, yet dodging anything that cuts into their bottom line when teamwork demands them to step up to the plate. Restaurant workers are the single most uninsured worker classification group in the country. Darden is another douche, cutting hours at all his holdings. It's so stupid, because restaurant workers are a low-risk health group too; they are younger and in better physical shape from standing, bending, lifting and running around all through their work shifts.

I'm not gonna boycott these businesses, 'cause it'll just come out of the workers' backs. I am gonna tip even more generously than before, and write down why on the card slip:

"Extra money so you can buy health insurance, since your boss is a whiny, selfish douche!"

and what's ridiculous is conservative news outlets are reporting this as PROOF that Obama is ruining the economy and destroying jobs.

when in reality these layoffs are just an extremely immature way of dealing with your guy losing.

As a former business owner, it realllllly cheeses me off that these guys actually are aware of the generous (up to 35%) business cost tax write-off to offset their end of carrying group health. Only companies with 50 or more hires have to participate.  If you have 50 workers, you got enough money, bitch! It's not like businesses have to pay for it all anyway, just a matching share. Obama has in fact gone over and beyond anything Bush did to help ease business expenses.

I don't see any of these pukes who are freaking out right now complaining about mandatory auto insurance....'cuz yeh...that's good to make people be responsible. Brain cramp me to death! WHY is it so hard to understand the same reasoning applies to mandatory health coverage?

And this is why democracy doesn't work. At any given time nearly half the country will have a vested interest in seeing it fail.

Thanks, Rinella. Yeah, the big social commonality these types of fools have is a deep, abiding love of Ayn Rand.....who worked as a waitress til she published....and died in poverty on inadequate government assistance. Irony Sandwich, Super Sized....

The Republican reaction reminds me of a kid who's told he can't have a cookie until he cleans his room, and in retaliation locks himself in his room and refuses to come out, complaining on Facebook about how his parents are so unfair.  When asked for a small concession, they dramatically punish themselves ten times more than what the concession is worth in order to prove to everyone what a horribly debilitating request it was, despite the fact that they're doing it all to themselves.

It's like they're afraid of not being afraid.  They spend years terrified of monsters, and when those monsters never appear, rather than concede that there are no monsters and it's safe to come out, they double-down and create their own monsters to attack them in order to vindicate themselves, then blame it all on the people assuring them there are no monsters.

This isn't even juvenile behavior.  It's infantile.

How do these people even get in charge of things? I think that's the key question here.

It's worse than infantile.  It's economically destructive.

It's truly disheartening when people do selfish, childish, stupid things like this.

No.

Though, the willingness of a select few with economic power to carry out a self-fulfilling prophecy is indeed pathetic.  They seem to have such a "I told you so" mentality that they have to make sure things go according to how they predicted, even if it means contributing to the outcome themselves through legal means of economic sabotage.

The people they get to agree with and support them probably don't want to see the country fail, either. The ones I've spoken with have fallen for the 'welfare queen' myth pretty damned hard, and yet tend to be incredibly helpful towards the people they know and care about. As cynical as I am, I just don't see most of these people as wanting the US to fail; I just don't think they realize that ending welfare and "entitlement" programs is going to work in the long term.
Her3tik, you have groupies.
