Hmm...and here I was thinking covering such threats was more the purview of the FBI.  Thought Secret Service was more like a bodyguard detail...

The Secret Service is a law enforcement branch that covers the protection of important political figures, including visiting ones from foreign lands, as well as investigating counterfeit currency and major fraud cases. So threats against the president are definitely their domain.

I do believe Santorum condemned this when he heard it after the fact.

Since he was wearing those ear-muffling things that protect your ears from the loud KABOOM of guns and all that.

Still a horrible man, so no real defense to him.
