One of our favorite subjects is the way marketers can use psychology to manipulate you into doing what they want (we don't think "brainwashing" is too strong a word).

We know what you're thinking: You're far too cynical to fall for the ads you fast forward through on your DVR or the little tricks employed by marketers and politicians to push your subconscious buttons. But are you sure? Because science has found ...

1. Color of pills
2.Priming
3.Views on a subject depend on wording
4.You Emotionally Bond With People You Sing With
5. Cars Have Facial Expressions, and We Buy Accordingly

More details on how they work - http://www.cracked.com/article_19646_5-creepy-forms-mind-control-youre-exposed-to-daily_p2.html

I never thought about the color of pills before, and as far as priming goes I also never saw the connection till they pointed it out and then tried to watch for it to see how true it is yesterday while watching a few shows and then saw the connection.  I have experienced #4 personally back in highschool, I took a psychology class and we were to get into groups for a project, well the group I got put into I didn't really like any of them.  So my teacher told us to all hold hands and not let go the whole time and go walk 2 laps around our schools track while she watched us and sure enough when we got done we were more willing to work with each other and more cooperative.   What do you guys think, have you fallen victim for any of these?

I don't pay attention to my pill's color except to identify it if I drop it.

Also, Eddie Izzard did a much better skit about priming.

I've noticed cars look like they have expressions, but I don't think it has ever influenced my opinion of the car in terms of its worth.

Nobody thinks stuff like this effects them, but we're not always aware of why we do what we do.

That's true, I have no way of knowing if it has affected me subconciously.

The word "fresh" has honestly never come to mind when grocery shopping, except when comparing certain fruits and vegetables, and mostly it comes out to "this doesn't look fresh, and this does, so I'm buying this."

And yes, they have flowers at the entry-way.

my store has donuts and what not but that may be due to the fact i live in Louisiana so it may be a culture thing down here. and on the topic this doesn't surprise me on a subconscious level.
