Unfortunately, Baconport is no longer the tropical paradise it once was. Seems that carrying the map over to 1.0 changed the biome to a snow one.

Snowmen have infested it, anywhere a snowmen walks, it drops snow.....I think.

They do, but the ocean is also partially frozen. And snowman trails would disappear pretty quickly in a warmer biome.

I'm interested in learning how to do all the cool stuff with redstone. Anyone got any advice?

Plus we need a group project for Baconport. Any ideas?

A minecart subway, perhaps?  That goes to each building?

You're free to destroy my portal and secret basement to do so, just leave my entrance intact XD

I LIKE the idea of a Baconport Mass Transit.

Old Thread (http://"http://fstdt.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=et&action=display&thread=9790")

Okay, here's the shakedown. Try connecting to dickfingers.tk or ask me for the IP. Otend does not talk about the mafia anymore. If you spawn Creepers or Endermen with spawn eggs I will spam your e-mail inbox with piccolo dicks.

Have fun.

I like the idea of an airport. A massive airport. With groping stations and flying Greyhounds and baggage losing machines and all!

New construction at the Land of Sandman.

* Giant Tower of Evil
* Underbacon (reached by going down the Giant Tower of Evil)
* Giant Crater
* Crater house
* Powered minecart subway connection many parts of the complex.

I would post pics but I'm not entirely sure how to take screenies in MC. I know, I'm a dullard.

Also, F1 will hide the HUD and F11 is fullscreen. Very useful when taking screenshots.

Underbacon is like 10 times bigger than that now. I have discovered something. Detonating 244 TNTs simultaneously will kick everyone off the server and make you re-log, but 243 won't. Good to know.

It's EXTREMELY easy to run a server. You literally just have to open a port in your router and start the server, and then people can connect to it. If you need help with the whole port forwarding thing, I can assist you.

And here (http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Server.properties) is an excellent page on how to configure your server if you so desire.

It's really not as seamless as people think. You join with a creeper skin and I automatically notice you don't have four legs and you walk funny and you have a name above your head.

I'll keep my diamond sword ready anyways, though. ;)

Holy crap! You guys are WAY better at Minecraft than I am. I dunno, I never seem to get past the "nice-looking house and yard" phase, and if I start anything bigger I go all ADD and lose interest.

Then again I spend 99% of my game time converting caverns into mineshafts, so take that as you will. :)

2) I can't place or destroy blocks anymore, for some reason.

Also, the UnderBacon looks sweet.

We did have some fires the other day. I had a few sections of my own burned, but I suspect that was my own fault. I let a buddy of mine try some building and he apparently didn't realize that lava and wool blocks don't mix. Took me a bit to rebuild, but what the hell. It's like LEGOs, nothing is ever really lost.

Here is a map of the server so far, generated by Tectonicus. (http://dickfingers.tk:81/baconport/) You can zoom in wicked close to the map, as well as view the caves under the surface, which includes the Underbacon! However, I'm not going to render the nether because there isn't much there and one render+upload of the overworld takes long enough to complete.

Enjoy!

It is uploading at a PAINFULLY slow rate. It's all local and it's just going over the router to my netbook, and there's still like 22,000 files left to transfer. I dunno if there's a better way to do this but as it is the map render is being a real bitch.

Well, sure, you'd just need the world folder the map is in. It's about 300 MB. Then you can use Minetographer (a front end for Tectonicus) and it will probably take 30-40 minutes to render completely.

I love logging in and seeing new construction in Underbacon. Deeze's new cavern gets two thumbs up from the sandman. How many TNTs did it take to carve that out?
Title: Re: FSTDTcraft
Post by: Witchyjoshy on January 23, 2012, 03:05:30 am
So I made a dragon's cave in the underbacon, along with a vertical tunnel (currently, you have to use your imagination on how the dragon climbs up there) and a roost where the dragon can take off.

The logic behind it is that it's a sapphire dragon, and a sapphire dragon's breath burns stone into lapis lazuli.  That's the look I tried to go for, anyways.

And I added a secret garden for kicks.  It's not that secret, but eh.

I can't really estimate, but I can tell you the method. I basically punched 1 block shafts up to a few meters below the surface and filled them with TNT. I'm glad I didn't blast into somebody else's area by accident.

There will be more stuff to come, as soon as I think of how to connect all those bridges that lead to nothing ;p

Also my squid keep de-spawning :<

I have taken the liberty of upgrading Palin's Bridge To Nowhere. Why? For two reasons. One: it was a chance for me to test a large-scale version of a silly redstone project I was working on: A redstone-powered minecart track that recalls the cart from the other side. Two: I felt a single one-block-wide bridge did not truly reflect the monumental waste of technology, time and effort on the part of Palin in building the damn thing in the first place.

Therefore, I have finished this: The new Palin/Trump Bridge to Nowhere. Why Trump? Because the rails run on Iron Blocks, the redstone currents run on Gold Blocks, and the stops are buffered with Diamond Blocks. I did that because it was a truly wasteful material to use instead of, say, Cobblestone... and Trump just seemed to fit that one well.

http://imgur.com/a/ZFAvW (4 images)

The wires are part of a cool system: If the minecart is at the other station, you can push the same button you use to go, and it'll bring the minecart back to you! Problem is... you can't even see the other stop from the first, so you have no way of knowing when's a good time to push that button. Also, it's a massive amount of redstone for such a trivial function. To top it all off, again, the bridge goes absolutely nowhere spectacular at all.

Considering that, the time I spent working on a small test model, and the time clearing ice around it... this entire thing was a waste of about two hours' worth of time. A waste of time using a waste of resources to build a marvel of redstone engineering that does absolutely nothing useful to anybody whatsoever.

It's perfect.

I've been trying for weeks to fandangle a minecart recall system...and you do it in two hours?  I think I'll take the high-road and just look at your design sometime...
Title: Re: FSTDTcraft

I've been trying for weeks to fandangle a minecart recall system...and you do it in two hours?  I think I'll take the high-road and just look at your design sometime...

Feel free. The bridge makes it look complex, but the system itself is actually pretty simple: Two parallel lines, each with a one-way current of redstone. When you push a button at either station, the current travels both to the powered rail next to it, and the one all the way on the other side. If you're at Station A and the cart is at Station B, it'll bring it back to you. It does have to be two one-way currents though; if you connect them, you'll get an endless loop, which is actually pretty funny to watch.

I've got a couple more screenshots to show you guys... I think most of you are already aware of this, but if you're not: Baconport is no longer classified as a snow biome. Rain is falling, not snow, and ice/snow that is removed stays gone. To that end, a few of us (mostly Zachski and myself) have been undergoing Operation: Thaw Baconport, or as I like to call it: Operation: Fuck Snow.

I've felt a drive to do this since the frozen-over city looked like a graveyard, a dead city... and removing the snow and ice is like breathing life into it to me. If you don't believe me, check this out:

http://imgur.com/a/lvQdW (2 images)

That's right... Baconport can be freed, and we're doing it right now. I could use some help though, whenever anyone has some spare time... we've cleared a fuckton of ice and snow, but the city and surrounding land/water is a big place, and it's not an easy task going through it all. If you've got some spare time, please, hop in and clear ice or snow from Baconport:

For ice, Glowstone has proven remarkably effective. For large areas, of course, you'll need to place a shitload of it, but it does break the ice and, since Baconport's no longer under the definition of "iceland", it won't come back. Thank the gaming gods.

For snow... that's more of a pain in the ass. I've taken to placing a ton of torches about to take out radii of snow around them (if I make something of yours look ugly, I apologize, but the offending torches can easily be removed), and punching out the stragglers. I've also gone on a fucking killing spree on snow golems; we can always put them back later if we want, but the fact that beings were running around creating additional snow drove me nuts.

As you can see, especially from the first screenshot, we've done a lot to clear it, but there's always more to go. Any help is greatly appreciated. :D

Isnt there a mod where you can make remote security cameras and viewscreens? That might work to know if the minecart is at the other station.

Strap in folks... I'm going to take you on a tour. You're going to love this, I promise.

It hasn't been long in real-life time from the time I started playing on the FSTDT server, and tonight. In-game, however, tonight I am proud to present the result of in-game weeks of cumulative effort, from a number of people; I'd like to particularly name Hades, Zachski, and Piemun for their help with the project of restoring Baconport.

A task that is, as of now... complete.

Well, okay... there's still some snow on surrounding hills, as well as in the midst of the forest behind the Underbacon sign... but not a lot! I'll mop up what little is left as time goes on. Either way, I'm quite happy to take you all on a tour of your beloved city. Images linked for size.

http://i.imgur.com/jJzNT.jpg

The North Baconport area that was still unfinished as of the last update. It's quite done now, and I've used Bonemeal to call forth grass and flowers on the field.

http://i.imgur.com/aUxZj.jpg

Last time I showed you East Baconport, there was still quite a bit of snow on the treetops... that has been thoroughly removed. Some collateral damage there actually... the flowers around the central post were disturbed by a bucket of water. I put them back but I'm not sure it's the same pattern. >_<

http://i.imgur.com/rphUB.jpg

More of the East Baconport area, to the north, showing where the snow remains. I didn't get that part on the way to Guantanemotend Bay because honestly, I think the icy wasteland fits the prison quite well.

http://i.imgur.com/hB0uv.jpg

North Baconport, near the farms. Some plant growth was disturbed but I replanted.

http://i.imgur.com/7aBG4.jpg

The forest of West Baconport, behind the Underbacon sign. I haven't got all the snow from here yet, mostly due to the fact that there's redstone and I had to be careful with water (and there's a LOT of ground to (un)cover). Still, a remarkable improvement.

I wanted to build some kind of memorial, though that's a terrible name since a memorial usually means somebody died. I wanted to commemorate the effort, and I really wanted it to be somewhere in the city. As I was pondering this problem... suddenly, I heard a KABOOM! I rushed over to where the sound came from, only to discover that the wood shed near the road into town and the chicken launcher had mysteriously exploded! I have no idea how that possibly could have happened. There wasn't anything left of the poor building either... so I decided that, since it was gone, I might as well use the space...

http://i.imgur.com/RM1n8.jpg

Every element of this small marker, except for the netherrack and iron bars, was instrumental in removing Baconport's ice and snow. There is also a marker nearby to describe it:

http://i.imgur.com/9eQT1.png

I also noticed that on the way down to Underbacon, there's a sign that says "Beat the snow! Go below!"... I added my own little note to that:

EDIT: I did not clear Sleepy's cave, which is a) huge, b) loaded with snow, and c) dark. If s/he's still around, s/he can get that one. :P

Also... am I going crazy, or did someone change the name of the theatre? I swear it said VILE before... now it says DICK. Weird.

Whelp, I decided to finish something I started in Baconport a fair while back.  Never really had an idea what I wanted to do with it until now...

Behold, the Tower of Elements!

The entrance to the Tower:

Over the past few days, I've been building a transport system that is currently focused on my current project: an academy.  People are completely free to add and attach to it as they please; it's reached from a minecart line in front of the glass library, near the green-edged-flag ship.

Also, here are some pictures of things I did recently...

Baconport is being shelved for the time being. Otend and I have decided to start a new map, probably survival, and to archive Baconport for another day. Everything will still be there, the map will just not be online for a while. Apologies to everyone that -was- working on something at the time, but there really wasn't a hell of a lot of interest in Baconport anymore, sadly.

Hey, Minecraft is like LEGO. It's the building that's fun, not the keeping. If this new survival map is multiplayer, let me know.

Favorite moment: 51-52 minute area of jumping into a hole to grab my stuff and having a creeper show up behind me blowing my ass up and throwing my corpse into the ravine below.

Awesome. I had to shut down my computer cold because no matter what I did the screen refused to work and as a result a chunk was corrupted and some user data was lost. I had to remove the offending chunk but couldn't do much else as I hadn't made a backup since the server was only a day or two old. If you lost any items as a result of this, feel free to spawn them back.

I hate Asus, I'm never touching them again with a 10 foot pole.

Okay as of now I'm just going to shut the server down because nothing can ever go right for me.

So does that mean the server is down for good? If so, does anyone know a decent multi server out there?

I'd offer to run one myself, if that were true, but...the uptime would be kinda erratic, because I'm -really- OCD about shutting my laptop down when I go to bed.
