I do think that their metaphor is, for once, appropriate. A king is basically a thief. A king exploits his brute force to enforce rents- claims of entitlement- on the property of others. Isn't that essentially what they're (pathetically) trying to justify? The use of force to obtain what they think they are entitled to?
